Purveyor of Pure Crystal Steuben Glass Celebrates 100 Years As part of a yearlong celebration marking is 100 th anniversary, Steuben Glass is launching an extensive selection of new stemware, barware and drinking accessories. For the last century, no well-appointed table has been without Steuben Glassware, which many connoisseurs consider the world's purest crystal. In fact, several of its creations have qualified for inclusion into some of the world's most prestigious museums, such as The Metropolitan Museum of Art and Louvre in Paris. In April, Steuben launched six unique suites of drinking glasses, champagne buckets, ice buckets and two sculptural decanters, which comprises 41 new products. These new creations are characterized by their extraordinary clarity, technical bravura and classic elegant design that earned Steuben Glass international attention in the early twentieth century. Since it's founding in 1903, the company has been at the forefront of glass design. “Steuben is the only luxury crystal company in the United States,” explained Marie McKee, President & CEO. “Our 100-year history mirrors the exciting evolution of American design in the twentieth century. That history has been told through hundreds of objects, ranging from monumental exhibition works to beautiful functional pieces. With the introduction of our new tabletop crystal, Steuben celebrates not only its anniversary, but the continuing power of the decorative arts to enhance pleasure in everyday living.” The superbly crafted Equestrian decanter, which was designed by David Dowler, is one of the most noteworthy of the new tabletop designs by Steuben. Inspired by Sidney Waugh's 1937 “Horse Head” sculpture, that vessel's interior base subtly rises to form the rounded silhouette of a stirrup. The decanter's signature piece is the regal horse's head that crowns it. An important collectable, the Equestrian also is a versatile accessory that complements all of thesteuben's stemware and barware suites. It is the latest addition to the company's converted animal designs. Steuben also has introduced the Counterpoint collection, which is designed for water, red wine, white wine, and champagne flute and champagne bucket are designed for the sophisticated host or hostess. Steuben's most formal and extensive new drinking suite is the Petal Cut. The 10-piece set is comprised of stemware, barware and accessories, defined by spirals from twisting, petal-like facets. Steuben will also celebrate the year with a series of events. Including the publication of Steuben Glass: An American Tradition, and a planned museum exhibition to commemorate Steuben's influence on mid-twentieth century American design.
